Sidenote: someone on FP said that the JZA80 looks like the bastard child of an '89 Taurus and a Prelude. And I wanted to say: "You look like the bastard child of a Taurus and a Prelude." But I didn't. Because that would be far to clever of a comeback. Even though it isn't true, the '91 Prelude and '89 Taurus both had revolutionary designs in their own rights.

GAWD I love that car. Someday, it WILL be mine!!

With some engine mods, very little done to the exterior.

I like the way you think! If only more Supra owners thought that way, we wouldn't have an endangered species and skyrocketing prices...

if I had a dollar for every non turbo supra with a knock-off Bomex kit I've seen, I would be able to buy a cheap-non-turbo supra with a knock-off Bomex kit.

Haha! That is so incredibly true. In my area, most Supras are decent, but I know how it can be in other regions...

Why does this wheel look so nice on this car. I thought it would be hideous on everything, but I guess not.

I haven't priced them out lately, but I'm sure a Mark IV manual twin turbo is going for low $60k+. Fast and Furious made every wannabe street racer turn them into a small army of Japanese Frankensteins.

It went 0-60 in 4.6 STOCK. Just add a couple of slightly larger turbos, better brakes (although the stock ones are insane in their own right, and a couple of doo-dads to help handling. No side skirts, no stupid aftermarket spoilers, no splitters that couldn't make it over a small speed bump. Just keep it clean.

Yeah, Work Meisters are good on MR2s, Altezzas/1st gen Altezzas, Miatas, and a few other cars. The body shape has to be pretty pure for these kinds of wheels, I think.

I'd say it's about 50:50 here. Subtle styling is coming back so lots of people are putting their stock bumpers back on.

I had a quick look on the local car sales websites and there's a few nice ones for reasonable amounts. Pity I just bought the MR2 and I'm not ready to part with it just yet.

Same for FD RX-7's- boost the engine and drivetrain, massage the suspension, leave the body alone. She's gorgeous just the way she is.

They don't quite work on BRZ/FRS's. I think it has to be a less aggressive style, they are a pretty laid back wheel.

I'm not big on JDM but I feel like you should keep cars stock, but that doesn't tend to happen in JDM, why?

I'm glad someone else here appreciates them! Not many people realize how capable they were out of the box, and the engines and turbos did not even come close to their true potential; getting 500rwhp out of the sequential turbos is not unheard of with minor mods, not to mention the fact that the car pulls almost 1G on the skidpad and is comfortable under normal driving—many engineers have said that without the gentleman's HP agreement it would have truly been a supercar. At least the high prices act as a way to preserve them, although many of the Arabian oil princes are not deterred in making them into ugly, 1500HP show queens and highway wrecks. The worst part is that they are always the cleanest, lowest mileage twin turbos.

Some decent N/A 5spd examples can be had for pretty cheap. I am so glad the fad of excessive bodykits and flashy mods is dying down, but they it's given way to a new fad of cars that often results in cars that cannot be repaired when it loses popularity: stance. Also, what generation MR2 do you have? If I had one it would take quite a while to be able to get to the point of wanting to change cars. You should post some SR20s on Oppo sometime!

1990 JDM SW20 Turbo with the crazy low mileage of 96kkm's, I've only got the one decent pic on my work laptop.

Kinja'd!!!

That was the day I got it. The only thing that has changed is the number plate (and I removed the mirror tint, but you can't really see that in the photo anyway). It's more or less stock other than the unknown-brand exhaust it came over from Japan with and aftermarket GFB blow off valve.

It replaced a non-turbo Bathurst spec model which I owned for 7 years. It got rear ended a couple of months ago and went to the scrapyard in the sky.
